World Religion Day 2016

World Religion Day is an interfaith observance initiated in 1950 by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the United States, celebrated worldwide on the third Sunday in January each year. Though initiated in the United States, World Religion Day has come to be celebrated internationally.

International Day of Democracy 2015

 

In 2007 the United Nations General Assembly resolved to observe 15 September as the International Day of Democracy—with the purpose of promoting and upholding the principles of democracy—and invited all member states and organizations to commemorate the day in an appropriate manner that contributes to raising public awareness. The United Nations’ (UN) World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 each year. This event  draws public’s attention to the millions of refugees and Internally displaced persons worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, conflict and persecution.

Today is International Museum Day!

 

Every year since 1977, International Museum Day is coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and organised worldwide around May 18. This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society.

 

The event highlights a specific theme each year that is at the heart of the international museum community’s preoccupations. The theme this year is Museums for a Sustainable Society.
