Chapter Access
Sometimes a single chapter is exactly what a course needs. Berghahn supports chapter-level use in multiple ways:
- Library platforms: Many of our platform partners allow students to read or download chapters individually.
- Course packets & permissions: Individual chapters can be licensed via CCC and PLS.
- Learning platforms: Some partner platforms have options to assign and annotate a single chapter collaboratively. Direct from Berghahn: Selected chapters may also be made available for adoption on request. Contact publicity@berghahnbooks.com for more information.
Paperback* editions remain available and affordable for students who prefer print.
- Campus Bookstores: Available through your campus bookstore, supplied via our distributor.
- Direct from Berghahn: Students and instructors can order via the website, where special discounts may be available for course adoption. Contact publicity@berghahnbooks.com for more information.
*If a book you would like for a course is only available in print as a hardback, contact us for options.
Open Access
Berghahn is committed to supporting equitable access to scholarship. Many of our titles and chapters are published Open Access, making them freely available for teaching and course adoption.
- Books and Chapters: Selected titles are available in full Open Access editions through author institutional support and can be linked directly from your syllabus or course platform.
- Library-Funded Initiatives: Portions of our OA program are sustained through collective funding models, including Migration and Development Studies Collection and Knowledge Unlatched (KU) Select. These initiatives ensure that high-quality scholarship remains freely accessible for teaching worldwide. Learn more here.
- Open Educational Resources: Our Open Access content can be adopted under institutional OER initiatives, ensuring zero cost for students.
- Discoverability: OA titles are hosted on our website and in major academic repositories (including JSTOR and OAPEN), making them easy to integrate into course resource lists.
