What is an EPUB?
An EPUB is a type of eBook format can be read on e-reader software available for most smartphones, tablets, and computers. On this website all eBooks are offered in EPUB format. The EPUB format is open source but does not open with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
How do I buy an eBook/EPUB through this website?
Browse our extensive list of titles on our website at www.berghahnbooks.com/browse/ebooks. eBooks are available for many of our titles and can be purchased directly from the Berghahn eBook Library. When you make a purchase from us you will create a new account for yourself, which is separate from the one you may have already created to buy a print book. After completing the transaction through the Berghahn eBook Library you will be emailed a receipt containing a link to download your eBook(s). You will also discover that your purchases are shelved in our virtual stacks and you may download them whenever you wish.
Can I purchase an ePub and a hard-copy book at the same time?
Yes. Just use the Buy button to add the item to your cart and then continue shopping. We may have special offers for combining print and eBook purchases, so we encourage you to subscribe to our subject-based e-newsletters for those opportunities!

Can I download an eBook/EPUB to my desktop?
Yes. You just need to have an eReader app to read your ePub or eBook. Most eReaders are available for free. The simplest method is to install a browser plugin to open the title directly in your usual web browser. For example in Chrome:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/epubreader/jhhclmfgfllimlhabjkgkeebkbiadflb/
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/epubreader/
There is also some free software you can install that will also organize all your ebooks and convert to and from various formats. For example:
https://calibre-ebook.com/download. This is our recommended option for reading epub files.
If you are on a Mac operating system, Apple Books is your default epub reader.
How do I read an EPUB that I have downloaded?
You can read EPUBs on your desktop, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android device but you will need to download the appropriate software. Here is a list of eReaders that support EPUB files: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_e-book_formats#Supporting_platforms
Please see the Download section for some more links.
The text is too small to read. How do I fix that?
Your eReader controls the size of the text of your EPUB. Check the Help section in your eReader to find out how to change the type size.
Can I return an eBook that I have purchased?
All purchases are final and eBooks cannot be returned or refunded. If, however, you experience any technical difficulties with your eBook, please contact us at support@berghahnbooksonline.com.
