Description

Drawing on archival field notes from Nepal in the 1970s, this book explores the metaphysical dramas woven into ritual and everyday life. Explicating the metaphysics enacted in Hindu life and ritual, it offers new conceptualisations of personhood, time and existence. Engaging with new and classic approaches to sacrifice, sexual difference, mythology, rites of passage, witchcraft, architecture and more, the study draws from anthropology, comparative religion and philosophy. Through archival experimentation with the ethnographic, it opens up new conceptualisations of anthropology and demonstrates the possibilities for experimentation beyond the strictures of methodological and disciplinary orthodoxy.

Glen Michalski is currently a visiting research fellow at Adelaide University.
