Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts, Sciences and Humanities

Series Editors:
Willard McCarty, Professor Emeritus, King's College London
Tara Mahfoud, University of Essex

Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts, Sciences and Humanities (IRASH) publishes books that explore the possibilities and challenges of research across multiple fields. Rather than promoting “interdisciplinarity” as a concept, it seeks to foster meaningful dialogue between different intellectual traditions and historical contexts, making their assumptions visible and mutually understandable. Instead of aiming for a single unified theory, the series encourages critical exploration and the development of new frameworks for cross-disciplinary inquiry. Its books are designed as cohesive, cover-to-cover works that invite sustained reflection, rather than as collections of isolated or purely topical contributions.

IRASH includes both single-authored and multi-authored volumes, each embodying interdisciplinary engagement in different ways. A single-authored work stages this dialogue within one perspective, often tracing a central question across multiple disciplines to reveal deeper connections. Multi-authored volumes, by contrast, are collaborative projects rather than conventional edited collections, with contributors working toward a shared intellectual goal. These may take diverse forms, from fully integrated co-written texts to loosely connected chapters that interact in unexpected ways. In all cases, the defining feature of an IRASH volume is its commitment to genuine, thoughtful interdisciplinary exchange.
