How does the Berghahn Book Club work?

At the beginning of each month, you will receive an email reminding you that your new coupon(s) are available. We will also highlight a few new titles for possible selection as part of your subscription. Once you are signed into your account, there will also be a highlighted list of new titles and curated list of subject-themed backlist titles for your consideration. If you are registered to receive our newsletters, the highlighted list of new titles will reflect your subject preferences.

While you can choose any title(s) currently available each month, these recommendations are there to help guide your selection.

Making your selections

How do I select and download my included eBook(s) on the Berghahn Books website?

Once you have chosen your eBook, simply add it to the shopping cart and apply the coupon code supplied in your Book Club account during checkout.

You will be able to download your eBooks after checkout and at any time afterwards from your Berghahn digital bookshelf at any time, even if you choose to unsubscribe.

How do I select and receive included paperback(s) on the Berghahn Books website?

Once you have chosen your book(s), simply add them to the shopping cart and apply to coupon code supplied in your Book Club account during checkout.

How do I use my extra discount on the Berghahn Books website?

Once you have chosen your book(s), simply add them to the shopping cart and apply to coupon code supplied in your Book Club account. This discount code may be used unlimited times each month you are a member.

When and how will I be charged?

Your credit card will be charged on the same day of the month on which you signed up (i.e. If you first join on March 13, then your next payment will be on or about April 13.). If there’s a problem with your payment, we’ll let you know and you can update your payment method. If we're not able to resolve a payment problem before your next payment, then your membership will be automatically downgraded to the free version. You can upgrade at any time.

How are my print books shipped and how long does it take?

At check-out you will be offered a selection of shipping methods, including media mail through overnight delivery. Those are shipping times once your package leaves the warehouse. Most of our books are print-on-demand with Lightning Source and usually ship within 7-10 days. Current COVID-19 restrictions and global supply chain issues sometimes cause further delays.

Do I get anything else?

The first 100 paid members will receive a free gift. We may, from time to time, offer additional incentives and rewards.

Is there a free option?

You may register for a Berghahn Book Club account that will enable you to view our suggested titles, create wish lists, and view past shopping history, but you will not receive any books. There may be occasional special offers.

Managing your membership

How do I change my Book Club shipping address?

Prior to check-out, please make necessary changes to the shipping address in your account profile.

How do I change my email address?

Our shopping cart uses your email address as the main identifier for the account. If you need to use a different email address, please contact support@berghahnbooksonline.com.

How do I change my billing information?

During check-out, you will be able to change the credit card and/or billing address. You will be given the option of saving this information to your profile.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my Book Club membership?

Yes. Prior to your next automatic payment, you can cancel your existing subscription as re-subscribe as needed. If you do not re-subscribe you will continue to be registered as a Basic Bookclub member and your wish lists and alerts will remain accessible.

How do I cancel my Book Club membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time. Simply cancel your subscription. You will still be able to see your alerts, wish lists, purchase history, and recommended titles.
