About the author:
Claudia Leal<\/strong> holds a Ph.D. in geography from the University of California at Berkeley and is associate professor in the department of history at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogot\u00e1. She has been a fellow at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in Munich and visiting professor at Stanford University and the Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Chile. She is the author of Landscapes of Freedom: The Building of a Postemancipation Society in Western Colombia<\/em>, and coeditor (with Carl Langebaek) of Historias de Raza y Naci\u00f3n en Am\u00e9rica Latina<\/em> and The Nature State: Rethinking the History of Conservation<\/em> (with Wilko Graf von Hardenberg, Matthew Kelly, and Emily Wakild).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
